Yvonne Samstag

Prof Dr Yvonne Samstag is a physician and Professor of Cellular Immunology at the University Hospital of Heidelberg, Germany. She is an internationally recognised expert in the study of the molecular mechanisms that control the function of human immune cells and how they are influenced by the microenvironment. Her research focuses on cancer and chronic inflammatory diseases. Since 2015, she has been a board member and project leader of the German Research Foundation (DFG) funded SFB TRR 156 (The Skin as a Sensor and Initiator of Local and Systemic Immunity). In 2016 she initiated the Academic Centre for Complementary and Integrative Medicine (AZKIM, www.azkim.de), funded by the Ministry of Science of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The aim of AZKIM is to comprehensively analyse the effects and mechanisms of action of complementary medicine therapies through the interdisciplinary linking of basic research, clinical research and health services research, thereby further expanding the scientific basis for integrative health care.
